South African orthopedic surgeons are renowned internationally for being caring and empathetic, understanding that corrective and cosmetic procedures are a highly personal and private experience.
All practising surgeons in South Africa are qualified medical doctors and are registered with the South African Medical and Dental Council - thus adhering to the ethical codes of conduct as put forward by the association.
Dr Josip Cakic – Hip & Joint Replacements
Fondly known as “Dr Chuck”, Dr Cakic practices as a general orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in hips. He is one of few Orthopaedic Surgeons in South Africa skilled enough to do an anterior incision for total hip replacement surgery, a procedure that potentially reduces pain and length of stay in hospital.
Dr Mark Ferguson – Knees, Shoulders and Sport
Dr Mark Ferguson is a Principle Orthopaedic surgeon at the well-established Centre for Sports Medicine - adjacent to the Rosebank Clinic. The Centre for Sports Medicine is renowned for arthroscopic and joint reconstructive procedures for the treatment of both local and international sportsmen.
Dr Gavin O'Brien - Foot and Ankle
Dr Gavin O’Brien specialised as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2005. He practised as an Orthopaedic Consultant at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and the Johannesburg General Hospital while practicing part time at Sunward Park Hospital. He joined Netcare Rosebank Hospital in 2006.
Dr Vardi has recently returned from the UK, having worked there for the past 10 years. He practiced as a knee surgeon at the Droitwich and London Knee Clinics for 8 years after a 2 year stint at Nottingham University as a Senior Registrar and Knee Fellow.
