EXPERIENCE...NELSON MANDELA STORY AND ALEXANDRA TOWNSHIP

- 4 hours - Robin Binckes

Here you are joined by local resident and partner Mphane Tlhoaele of Eims (Pty) Ltd. Home to over 400 000 people Alexandra is one of the most vibrant and exciting townships. You experience includes enjoying the local speciality of "vetkoek" while mixing with the locals and a visit to a Zulu hostel where Zulu dancing is performed in a hall decorated with paintings of the Zulu Kings. The first Lodgings of Nelson Mandela are visited, the shop of a traditional healer, the oldest area in Alexandra and the area known as Beirut. The history of the area is recounted and stories of the early days told. You are shown reconstruction programmes and taken to River Park to participate in a flower programme. The full story of the political struggle from the 1940's to 1960's is told culminating in the arrest of Nelson Mandela and the ANC High Command and the subsequent "Rivonia Trail"

EXPERIENCE APARTHEID AND THE AFRIKANER STORY

After a briefing you are taken to the infamous home in the South African Police "Death Squads" in the 1980's and 1990's. Vlakplaas, situated on the outskirts of Pretoria saw many secret operations and the role of the town most prominent commanders, Dirk Coetzee and Eugene de Kock is explained in details. The location of some of the atrocities is shown and the role of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission outlined. The reason for the establishment of Vlakplaas and the mind-set of "white South Africans" during that period is also touched on. To the Voortreker Monument, "the bastion of Afrikanerdom"' where stories of the early Voorterkkers are related. Aspects such as the killing of Piet Retief by Dingaan and the Battle of Blood River are also covered from both a Zulu and white perspective.

EXPERIENCE JOHANNESBURG AND THE STORY OF GOLD

Beginning with a drive through "Old Johannesburg" you are taken to a lookout point where one can view the entire city, Whilst sitting on rugs and enjoying tea, stories of early South Africa and Johannesburg and the gold rush are told. The Jameson Raid and the lead-up to the Boer War outlined and the devastating consequences.

EXPERIENCE THE ANGLO BOER WAR AND THE BATTLE OF NOOITGEDACHT

- 5 Hours - Robin Binckes

This experience begins with an outline of the war and you are then transported to the site of one of its most famous battles - Nooitgedacht. On top of the mountain the battle is explained in detail before flower are laid on the grave of one of the British soldiers.

SOWETO

- 3 1/2 hours

THE LESEDI CULTURAL VILLAGE

PRETORIA

THE CULLINAN DIAMOND MINE

RHINO-LION PARK AND WONDER CAVES
